As I visit with people about
bridge of life I will
sometimes refer to our congregation as “church for
people who don’t like church”. What does that mean?
There are some stereotypes out there about what “church”
is like… some think of church as boring and irrelevant
to daily life, some think the church is just interested
in money, some think that the church is sort of a club
where outsiders are not welcome. And let’s be honest,
there are places you can go and experience those things,
but here at bridge of life we are not that kind of
church.
We are a church that goes out
of its way to be relevant and speak to our daily
lives. The message of God’s incredible love for us
will be communicated as creatively as possible. You
will not be preached "at". You will be invited to ask
questions, challenge assumptions and discover good news
that is life changing. You will not hear us talking
about how much money we need. There are opportunities
to give, but not because of our need to receive, but
rather the need of the giver to give thanks. First time
guests are not expected to contribute. The offering is
not payment for services rendered but an act of worship.
bridge of life is place were
all are welcome…we mean it. You don’t have to have your
life straightened out before you come. It doesn’t matter
where you are regarding faith. Dress is casual. We
won’t make you stand and identify yourself. You can
come and slip in the back if you wish. When you are
ready we will be there to welcome you and be a support
community. We are still a small congregation that
places great value on relationships.
